If you’ve been following this blog, I’m surprised! Because I haven’t been writing anything.
However if you’re on the Facebook page, you’ll know that I’m going to be deploying to Afghanistan. Sometimes duty calls and it says, “Get your butt over there!” So here goes my butt.
To my fans, I’ll continue to update. It just won’t be the same stuff you’ve been seeing up to this point. So please stay tuned!
It always feels like there is one last thing to do on your list. One last thing to pack, only one more person to call, one more thing to put into storage, one more thing to buy.
After running around like a chicken with my head cut off for the past two days, everything I have now fits into three bags, a backpack, and a laptop case. Everything else is packed tightly into a 10×15 box that will be left to the dark and the spiders until I open it up again in a year.
The banks get called, the insurance gets changed, the phone gets turned off, and I say goodbye to my partner in crime. All I wanted with him was one more night sleeping next to him, one more funny photo to take, one more board game re-match.
But eventually you don’t get any more one-mores. You packed the last thing, called the last person, bought the last box of ziplock baggies, and got your last hug. Anything you didn’t do gets left un-done when you sit your butt on that plane, throw your hands in the air and say, “Oh well!”
Here’s to my partner in crime, James. I’ll see you in a year, baby. And by the way, I’m going to be totally buff then, so practice your arm wrestling.
